Doubts on Pinochet trial after he suffers stroke .FORMER Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet is conscious but remains in hospital after suffering a stroke.

The 89-year-old's family insist that he is too ill to be tried on human rights charges. The country's court of appeal will decide today whether to uphold Pinochet's indictment for the kidnapping of nine people and killing of one during his 1973-90 regime. Prosecution lawyers called his illness "an old manoeuvre" to impress the court. But Pinochet's family angrily reject the latest indictment by Judge Juan Guzman.
