IT PROMISES to be one of the more arresting sights in London. A 12-ton steamroller hurtling through the air in the name of art.
The restored 1968 vehicle will make its maiden "flight" as the centrepiece of a sculpture by acclaimed American artist Chris Burden. The steamroller is attached to a pivoting arm with a counterbalance that weighs 48 tons which drives it in an enormous circle until a maximum speed is reached. At the same time, a hydraulic piston is activated and pushes up the beam from which the steamroller is suspended.See the full content of this document
