Summary
WOMEN ruling the fashion design roost is nothing new: Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli and Madeleine Vionnet were the trio who defined the 1920s and 1930s. Now a new generation of innovative women is marking itself out. Louise Goldin has taken the once fusty world of knitwear and projected it into outer space. As a man, I can relate to these clothes as stunning pieces of 3D art. For women, it's more about how they feel: Goldin's tactile layers, body-con shapes and outstanding use of yarn have confidence and sex-appeal seamed-in.
