TILDA Swinton is a goddess. I took one look at her this week at the Venice Film Festival, magisterially ignoring co-stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney, and thought she could have stepped off the Parthenon frieze to cut those rampaging male egos down to size. I loved the Grecian dress, the severe hair, the wide shoulders the goddess Athena come to life. I can't think of many actresses who could carry it off, and that's why women love her.
In an age when film stars look much the same, Swinton stands out because she has always gone her own way. Her new movie, the Coen brothers' Burn After Reading, takes a swipe at obsessive fitness and cosmetic surgery.
