TALK of a bid for mmO2 may have dropped away in the last few weeks but the country's third-largest mobile phones operator made it clear today that in any revival of a takeover it would not come cheap.

Chief executive Peter Erskine said: "Although we expect further intense competition in our markets, we are confident that we can continue to deliver profitable growth in all our businesses and further build the value of the group."
