RIGHT to the very end, the fevered imagination of Steve Waugh's scriptwriter worked overtime. In the last hour of his hero's unsurpassed 19-year career, he tried out one final plotline in which Waugh bows out with a match-winning ton on his home ground to lead the Aussies to perhaps the most unlikely triumph in Test history. Sadly, it was just a bit too outrageous.
What he gave us, though, was still fairytale stuff.
