THE WAY things are going, there is going to be a little "crisis" about immigration every few weeks. The latest problem is caused by the possibility of tens of thousands of Bulgarians and Romanians, whose nations will join the EU next year, being permitted to come here, undercutting British workers and driving down wages.

The panicky Government speaks of introducing some work permit scheme, which would only allow Bulgarians and Romanians to come here to fulfil "specific skill shortages".
