LORD BROWNE'S reputation took another battering today, as a US judge said BP's attitude towards compensating victims of the Texas City refinery tragedy had massively improved since his departure as chief executive.

Judge Susan Criss, overseeing a legal action in Galveston, Texas, brought against the company by four employees, urged those pursuing more than 2000 other claims against BP to seek settlements out of court.
