THE LATE Stewart Steven, the former editor of the Evening Standard who died on Sunday, enjoyed a goodhumoured relationship with his proprietor, the 3rd Lord Rothermere. On one memorable occasion Steven heard that Rothermere was developing an interest in Buddhism.
