EXPECT DIPLOMATIC fireworks to fly at tonight's launch of a new book which heavily criticises the United Nations and its representatives. Some of those on the receiving end are expected to seize their chance to return fire by pitching up at the party this evening.

Adam LeBor's Complicity With Evil: The United Nations in the Age of Modern Genocide takes particular issue with the record of the outgoing Secretary General, Kofi Annan. This has already prompted an angry response from one guest Lord Hannay, the British permanent representative to the UN 1990-95, who said such criticism was, "untrue, unfair and unhelpful."
