Philip Hobbs's gelding, who collapsed on the gallops yesterday, was supplemented for the race at a cost of Pounds 17,500. Under the sport's guidelines, this fee is non-refundable and, after an administration charge, is automatically added to the Gold Cup's total prize fund, now standing at Pounds 365,580. The pot is divided between the first six runners past the post which means, instead of the winning owner getting around Pounds 203,000, the addition of the Farmer Jack cash means he or she will now get closer to Pounds 213,000.
