Summary
MUCH as I am looking forward to visiting the Tate Britain to see the collective works of Turner Prize winners spanning the past quarter of a century, I am distressed the Turner Prize 2007 is to be shown at Tate Liverpool. A retrospective seems a poor trade-off considering London has been fortunate enough to host the controversial competition's spoils hitherto.
Now it appears I'll have to go to Liverpool for the privilege, which I shall do in support of Britain's new artists, notably Zarina Bhimji who is in the running. Although mostly working in the fields of photography and installation, Bhimji's first film, Out of the Blue, with its thoughtful portrayal of Ugandan architecture and landscapes as a means of addressing the country's recent past, caught my attention. I look forward to viewing such an inspiring artist's latest work -- even if it is a long way from home.See the full content of this document
