A STUPENDOUSLY undramatic US Masters ended in Georgia last night with viewers conceiving ever more outlandish scenarios by which Trevor Immelman might fail to win his first Major title, thereby handing Tiger Woods his 14th. Even after Immelman's lead was halved to three strokes, however, when he double-bogeyed the 16th and Woods simultaneously birdied the last, we were reduced to imagining his next tee shot being intercepted by a bird of prey and flown to Alabama. Oddly it never happened, and the South African, who to borrow from Larry Grayson seems like a nice boy, shut the door on Woods to complete a richly impressive pillar-topost victory, having led after each round.
It was also a colossal anticlimax because Woods, supposedly a shoo-in to begin his relentless march to the Grand Slam, missed more short putts in a round than you would expect him to miss in a season.See the full content of this document
