GEORGE Osborne is not some marginal member of the shadow front- bench team, but the shadow chancellor who intends to guide us through the credit crunch. There must now be serious doubts about the honesty and fair-mindedness of the whole Cameron project, as the revelations have suggested Osborne's ruthlessness, in terms of his readiness to reveal private conversations and to court new donors, however well-funded the party already is. Voters are entitled to ask what the Tories are really about the woolly compassionate Conservatism projected by David Cameron, or something much harderedged? Paul Wheeler, SE10.
