THIS is the year that tomatoes go large. It looks as if, however perfect, a red tomato will no longer make any impact and something larger, or with stripes, will be what's needed. MS open the bidding with the large Pink Beef tomato which will do just fine if you need a slice with the same radius as a burger; then newcomer the Whole Foods Market weighs in with a Heirloom White Beef tomato.

These are just the heavyweights, MS also offers Green Tiger tomatoes (green and red streaked, grown in Kent) and a tomato rather bizarrely called the Strawmato presumably because it looks rather like a shiny strawberry.
