THE fact that you are at university to study often gets lost in the whirlwind of freshers' activities, house parties, meets and greets and sampling the cheap booze in the union bar. While you might be able to get away with putting the books on the backburner at first, it is easy to fall into a pattern of all play and no work, putting in jeopardy your whole reason for being at university in the first place.

"For most people, one of the hardest things is that university is the first time they have been in control of managing their own time," says Jenny Ungless, director of City Life Coaching. "It's their first real taste of freedom and it is hard to buckle down and do the academic work when there's loads of other exciting stuff to do."
