AT LEAST Will Self (9 February) has the decency to recognise that he was wrong to believe 24-hour drinking would lead to mayhem. As a "cynical, manipulative retailer of alcohol", I knew all along that the only impact of the process of compliance would be to increase our costs.
People don't drink any more alcohol now, they just take longer over it, at a heavy cost to the licensed trade. The hysteria against smoking in pubs is the next round of damage to be inflicted on the industry, which already has low margins.See the full content of this document
