Summary


LONDON'S thirtysomethings endure two great frustrations. Half of us cannot find a house, and the other half cannot find a man. While I fall into the category Bridget Jones labelled "smug marrieds", the rest are what I call "thirtysingles". But we lead parallel lives in pursuit of our prey. I dedicate evenings and weekends to house- viewing, and surf property websites by day, while my single friends waste no opportunity to seek a potential mate, at parties and clubs, or on dating websites.

To someone who exited the singles market on the cusp of 30, it's an alien world. I asked my friend Hannah why it's so hard. Her friends are all paired off, she said and she works in magazines, so rarely meets a man, professionally or socially. She worries that she's wasting her best years eating pizza and watching DVDs with her mates. But why would she want to enter the scary world of dating?
