Summary
I RARELY single out large wine sellers for praise -- they can manage fine without my help -- but this month has brought a pleasing development at Majestic. The chain, which used to have a minimum purchase requirement of bottles, last week reduced this to six, meaning you can now just about carry your bottles home without a car. Why take advantage of that? Its range is excellent, occasionally quirky, and prices, while not the lowest, are competitive. Here are a few of my current favourites.
The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2007, Coastal Region (Pounds 8.99) Chenin blanc is South Africa's mostplanted grape and pretty forgettable much of it is too; this, by contrast, is just about as big and rich a chenin as it's possible to imagine.
