The Championship

Summary

So, farewell to Alan Pardew. The former Addicks midfielder's return to The Valley might have been about as successful as Lisa Scott-Lee's comeback tour, but at least he can't claim the fans ignored his pleas. In his final programme notes for last week's mauling by Sheffield United, Pardew asked the faithful to heed Frank Lampard's advice to England fans: "Punters have to go to games to support their team, not to boo after 10 minutes." Well, they didn't: against the Blades, Reds were booing after seven minutes. "We need as much support as possible during games the criticism can come later," Pards added. And it did, with 200 fans clamouring for his head moments after the final whistle. Good luck Phil Parkinson: you'll need it.
