THE stock market may have been short of genuine turnover today, but there was no lack of takeover stories doing the rounds again.

Corus kicked it off. The mutter from the gutter claimed India's Tata Steel was putting together the finances for a new offer worth up to 600p a share, which it hoped will deliver a knockout blow to rival bidder Companhia Siderurgica Nacional of Brazil.
