Tackling transport congestion
TODAY'S EXPERT report by the former BA chief executive Sir Rod Eddington on Britain's future transport needs says that the price of travel by road, rail and air must rise to reflect the environmental damage it causes. At the same time, however, Sir Rod warns of the threat of gridlock, particularly in London, and of the costs that imposes on the economy. He therefore wants to see road pricing, where drivers pay for using the busiest roads at peak times, which some estimate could be levied at a rate of up to Pounds 1.50 a mile.See the full content of this document
