HALF a million dollars will probably cover this week's storm damage to roads and bridges in Manawatu District, says council assets manager Richard Kirby.

"It's early days yet but that would be my best estimate," he said yesterday, surrounded by reports of slips on hill country roads. Two of the district's bridges are also out of action; the approaches to Pohangina's Valley Road bridge have washed out, again, and a bridge in Beaconsfield Valley may also be damaged.
