CENTRAL contracts are unlikely to save Andrew Strauss and Steve Harmison from the axe if England's selectors take a seriously dim view of their form and fitness before next month's Test tour of Sri Lanka.

Both Strauss and Harmison were awarded new central contracts -- worth in excess of Pounds 200,000 -- five weeks ago, indicating that Moores and Co expected them to figure strongly in England's Test plans over the next 12 months.
