"Luxury, opulence and indulgence are top of the list," says Rachel Martin of bathroom specialist CP Hart. "Increasingly, bathrooms are being seen as living spaces and we are setting aside special time for bathing and relaxing."

"When there is the opportunity to unwind, people want to relax in the bath in complete comfort with a book, listen to music or watch TV." Martin adds that, along with making bathrooms bigger, more Londoners are converting bedrooms and buying larger baths, basins and showers. "Five years ago, the standard shower size was 80cm square; now it is 140cm x 90cm."
