While soccer mania helps stem decline at JD Sports JD SPORTS retail chain owner John David today said sales were on the up at its struggling stores. Like-for-like sales at the JD Sports sites not inherited in its Allsports chain acquisition are up 4% in the 24 weeks to 15 July, thanks partly to the World Cup.

The fashion-based shops' sales decline was minus 0.6% as against minus 5.2% in the preceding months. JD said it was making progress on improving profit margins in fashion and sports, adding that operating costs were in line with its expectations.
