House prices rose again last month and there are signs the property market is stabilising, Britain's biggest mortgage lender said today. Halifax said an average home rose by 0.8 per cent to Pounds 163,748 in January after a 1.1 per cent gain in December.
The year-on-year increase slipped to 13.7 per cent - the weakest for three years. But after a sharp slowdown in the second half of last year the market looks to be levelling off, with estate agents reporting a pickup in activity.See the full content of this document
