Sleepwalker Cleared of Rape

Summary

AN RAF serviceman who claimed he was sleepwalking when he had sex with a 15-year-old girl was cleared of rape today. The teenager woke to find Kenneth Ecott, 26, naked on top of her and started screaming in the early hours of 19 November. The Senior Aircraftman had been celebrating a birthday in Dorset with friends and then went to sleep with several of them, including the 15-year-old, on inflatable mattresses. He woke up to find himself outside, naked. He was arrested at his barracks at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, later that day and did not deny that sex took place.

Bournemouth crown court heard that he said: "I laid down to go to sleep. The next thing I knew I was outside completely naked in the middle of the street. I walked round to the front door. I heard her crying, then it all blew up." Mr Ecott denied one count of rape and was cleared after two hours' deliberation.
