LONDON'S special care baby units are overstretched, unsafe and understaffed, regularly forcing sick infants to be transferred miles to another hospital, a damning report said today.
An investigation by the London Assembly found that babies needing intensive care have been sent to Luton and Cambridge because of shortages. Doctors have even phoned Glasgow and Lille in France in a search for cots for dangerously ill babies, one mother reported. The report found: .
