PENELOPE Fillon, the discreet Welshborn wife of Francois Fillon, France's Prime Minister, may not be feeling kindly towards Nicholas Sarkozy. Throughout the Christmas holiday while the President has flaunted his liaison with the internationally active man eater, Carla Bruni, in Egypt, the PM has been forced to mind the shop in Paris.

This evening, however, Sarkozy, has invited Fillon's government to a New Year's eve drinks party at the Elysee Palace. Consequently, Fillon has been forced to cut short his family's ski break in the Alps, to be back in Paris, thereby losing three days of a short holiday.
