WHEN the credit crunch recedes and the world goes back to normal, it is not going to be the normal of two years ago. The widespread collapse of much of the Western banking system has changed global relationships and perceptions.

It will be much more evident than it was previously that global economic power has shifted east, and is no longer the exclusive prerogative of the Western industrialised nations or the structures they created and the legal systems that support them.
