DAVID CAMERON is looking for a new speech writer. Old Etonian and committed Christian Danny Kruger, 34, was one of those who helped his master put together a barnstorming effort in Blackpool in 2007. Now he is leaving politics to run a charity for prisoners with his wife, Emma.

Some may think it odd timing that he has chosen to jump ship when the Tories are back in contention to win the next election. "My parting with David Cameron is perfectly amicable," Kruger tells me. "I'm going to be running a prison rehabilitation charity called Only Connect with my wife.
