SECRET meetings have taken place between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Europe's energy giants about building new UK nuclear power stations - indicating Prime Minister Tony Blair's plans for new nuclear build are much farther advanced than thought.
The three big European powerhouses which have already scooped up large parts of the UK energy market - Germany's E.On and RWE which respectively trade as Powergen and npower, and French-owned London Electricity group EDF - held meetings with DTI officials during the summer concerning the construction and operation of new nuclear power stations in Britain.See the full content of this document
