THE TATE has been criticised for rejecting one of Britain's foremost collections of art. Sir Nicholas Serota, the director of the gallery, snubbed the gift of 160 paintings saying they did not deserve to be in a national collection.

The works, by the Stuckists group of "traditional" painters, are on display at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.
