Summary
DISUSED railways could be made into roads and tramways by covering them with rubber mats made from old tyres.
The "bouncy streets", invented by Peter Coates Smith, could help cut congestion. Transport for London is to inspect a test track in Corby, Northamptonshire, which allows cars to travel at up to 50mph and leaves rails in place for trams. Each mile would be made of 354,000 scrap tyres and cost Pounds 1.4 million, compared with Pounds 20million a mile for some conventional new roads.See the full content of this document
