THE other evening, I was driving through Hammersmith in rush hour when a young learner driver in front stalled. Suddenly, there was chaos. Traffic began stacking up, horns blared and drivers cursed. The poor beginner in the small, scruffy car from what looked like a one-man band driving school, appeared petrified.
This is National Road Safety Week and attention will focus on some depressing numbers. Since 2004, the death rate among young drivers has more than doubled. People aged 17-21 account for 16% of the driving population but are responsible for 34% of seriousinjury and fatal accidents.See the full content of this document
