Pounds 12m to Sign 700 Reserve Strike-Busting Firefighters

LONDON fire chiefs today told why they have signed up 700 reserve firefighters in a Pounds 12 million deal with a private company.

They claim the war in Afghanistan has left the Army short of troops to man the "green goddesses" in the event of a strike. There are also fears that the emergency services will be badly hit by staff falling ill with swine flu.
