WHY all the violence? That's the question nonbelievers often ask after seeing The Passion of The Christ and it's a good one. Why does there have to be so much violence?
The easy answer pertains to the movie. There's so much violence in the movie because Mel Gibson wanted to make it as realistic a portrayal of actual events as possible. And even a cursory look at the people and the times tells you they were both very violent.
