MARK RAMPRAKASH was the only batsman to offer much resistance for Surrey at Trent Bridge today as championship-chasing Nottinghamshire took control.

Opener Richard Clinton was trapped leg before for eight by Andrew Harris, then South African left-armer Greg Smith took the wickets of Scott Newman, Rikki Clarke and Jon Batty inside eight overs. When Alistair Brown was dismissed by Ryan Sidebottom shortly after lunch, Surrey were in deep trouble but Ramprakash remained unbeaten on 40.
