THOUSANDS of rail passengers are returning to car travel because they cannot afford train tickets.
Seven out of 10 leisure users told a Passenger Focus survey that they will not travel by train because it is too expensive, with 44 per cent of those planning to switch to their cars. The national rail passenger watchdog also warned that a "substantial proportion" of commuters are missing out on cheap fares because they cannot afford the advance cost of season tickets. Instead they are forced into buying daily tickets, which can be a third more expensive.See the full content of this document
