WHEN Australia played the West Indies in their Twenty20 match at the Oval on Saturday, they were soundly beaten.

However, they were spared the news that one of their lucky mascots, the eleven London schoolboys chosen to line up on the pitch with them, was a kinsman of Douglas Jardine, the aggressive England captain who led the controversial "bodyline" tour of Australia in 1931-32, when MCC fast bowlers harassed the Aussie batsmen.
