SOPHIE Hawton is understandably vague about her father's death. She knows the facts, but the rest is a blur. Just 12 at the time, she was playing in her room with her younger brother Kit when they heard a crash and commotion downstairs.

From the landing they saw their father lying at the foot of the stairs, and their mother talking frantically on the phone. An ambulance came and took him away. Later, the doctors said he'd suffered a heart attack and died within hours.
