NOT even David Cameron could confuse Tim Congdon with a fruitcake. A monetarist professor of economics, yes, but it's not the same thing.

He has patiently argued that an oversupply of money must spill out into inflation, and now the Bank of England's monetary policy committee seems to agree with him. Up went Bank Rate yesterday as the MPC tried to keep inflation within reach of its target.
