SALT looks set to become public enemy number one following this week's launch of a multimillion-pound campaign to try to reduce the amount we consume.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) believes that half the British population is eating too much salt, and that cutting consumption by the equivalent of just half a teaspoonful a day could prevent 70,000 strokes and heart attacks every year.
