THE KEY issue at this week's Tory conference is not the economy, stupid. It's what Samantha Cameron will wear tomorrow when her husband addresses the nation. The woman already has form. When she arrived in Birmingham on Saturday, she was bang on trend with an unstructured red Joseph jacket (this season's playful take on the blazer) and a killer turquoise blouse, from high-street genius Reiss.
Never has the semiotics of dress been so fascinating. Last week, acres of newsprint were devoted to Sarah Brown's sensible jumper and black skirt combination, courtesy of young Scottish designer Graeme Black. Gone was the frumpy headmistress.
