CEPHALONIA has a strange effect on people. Whenever I mention that we are going to the Greek island for a one-week family holiday, someone who has been there before always turns mistyeyed recalling perfect days on idyllic beaches. Or at least they'd have a friend who had been on holiday there, which was their cue to recount vicarious tales of vacation bliss.
