SCOTLAND Yard's new Commissioner declared an end to the divisive years of Sir Ian Blair today and promised London "straightforward policing".

Sir Paul Stephenson marked his first day in charge of the Metropolitan Police by signalling a total break with his predecessor, saying: "Ian Blair did it his way. I am now going to do it my way." The 55-year-old former deputy commissioner said the fight against terrorism and youth crime are his top priorities.
