THIS week's Spectator outs David Cameron as a "closet radical" in the sort of editorial which must be mellifluent music to the ears of Conservative Campaign HQ.

"There is growing evidence that, within his recycled trainers, the Conservative leader's toes twitch with nervous energy: that he may be a closet radical," the magazine suggests. "Bit by bit, Mr Cameron is assembling a portfolio of policy proposals which could, if enacted with vigour, transform the country." The consensus until now has been that Cameron is extremely reluctant to frighten any horses or put any cats among pigeons and is thus not any sort of radical at all. So how to explain the Speccie's contention that Dave sums up boldness? Apparently, David Cameron and Spectator editor Matthew d'Ancona were spotted at Rowley Leigh's Le Cafe Anglais in Bayswater a few days ago.
