Ntl Raises Its Virgin Mobile Bid to Pounds 900m

Summary

CABLE company NTL today increased its offer for Virgin Mobile to 372p a share from 323p, valuing the group at just over Pounds 900 million against its original bid of Pounds 817 million.

The Virgin Mobile board is expected to meet this evening to consider the increased offer and may well recommend it. Simon Duffy, who will step down shortly as NTL chief executive, hopes the new bid will win over minority Virgin Mobile shareholders, who have sat tight as the virtual mobile network operator's share price has climbed steadily to today's 368p, up 1/4p.
