Dawn French lands a comic opera role - with no singing COMEDIENNE Dawn French is to appear at the Royal Opera House in the comic opera La Fille du Regiment. The Vicar of Dibley TV star will have a non- singing cameo role at Covent Garden playing La Duchesse de Crackentorp. Other stars in the opera, which opens on 11 January, include French soprano Natalie Dessay and Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez. Earlier this year French, 49, appeared in West End play Smaller alongside Alison Moyet.
